This past Sunday my boyfriend and I went apartment hunting. Both my boyfriend's parents and my mom wouldn't help us out financially to get an apartment because they said we were too young, but they said we could do it if we paid the rent on our own. The main reasons for getting an apartment are romantic reasons: someday I'm going to marry this guy, who I know feels the same way, and we need more time together. Truth be told, we were spending just a little bit too much time together in college, but I think now that we're older - it's been about 8 months - I think we've matured a lot and it will be a wonderful experience. My boyfriend and I have summer jobs, though mine pays quite a bit more, so we thought we'd be able to pay our summer rent and still have money left over for college this fall.
I decided to wear one of my Polyvore creations but I mixed it up a bit. I dropped the belt, changed my nail color, and changed my face since I no longer have a perm. Did I mention that? Yep, dropped the perm for the job interview. Finally, I substituted gorgeous Guiseppe Zanotti over the knee platform boots for the Casadei boots:
Don't these look nice? And the designer is so handsome and so creative. He's reworked a style we've all come to know and love and made it truly his own.
Now, when I was stepping out to meet Buddy, my little brother, who I love in so many and different ways but can also be a pain in the tuckus, said very loudly "Is Buddy your new mack daddy Naomi?" I couldn't believe it! That is something I would absolutely never do. I felt like asking mom to give him a spanking but thinking about it for a second I became afraid that she might not understand either.
So this was the first place we visit:
Even though my boyfriend is a genius, he doesn't have the best business sense so I asked him to let me do the negotiating. The landlord wanted $3000, yep $3000! a month for a loft that looked pretty nice, not exactly spectacular, and not in a very good neighborhood. We turned it down, just couldn't afford it.
So we met another realtor and he showed this place first:
We were looking for a furnished apartment because we couldn't afford both rent and furniture and this place had something that I wouldn't call furniture. Getting to brass tacks, the only way I could politely describe this loft was that it is a dump. It looked like it was going to collapse at any time, the neighborhood is bad, God knows what else s wrong with it, plus the guys wanted $1800 a month. So I just said "No way, show me something else." Which they did:
And this is the loft we moved into, but not first without a little business talk, wasn't the greatest place, same building as the other place, so a little common sense and we had a deal that I think is beneficial for the three of us.
The real problem here in Detroit is the lack of jobs and the very high rents. This loft we're in now ain't that cheap nor it ain't that good, so it's no wonder so many people are leaving Detroit for happier vistas.

Boho Summer in Detroit

Boho Summer in Detroit

Forever 21 boho style top / Warehouse dark wash jeans, $74 / Casadei real leather boots, $430 / Charlotte Olympia chain handle handbag, $265 / Whistles bangle jewelry, $47 / Michael Kors american jewelry / Hollywood Mirror pointy hat / Charlotte Tilbury pink lips makeup / Gel nail care, $21 / Small appliance / Sammy Moore Welcome To Detroit
So this is the look I picked out, only difference is that I chose different boots and different nail color. My boyfriend helped out by taking a few pictures:
I don't know if these sunglasses are working for me. I like the hat but I don't think it's really doing a good job either. Here's another photo:
I have to admit that I did not completely originate this style since the girl modeling the blouse was wearing similar jeans. The difference is the jeans I'm wearing are more flared and a little closer fitting, maybe it's my figure.
I could see myself wearing this outfit while cruising around in my boyfriend's hot rod - if he ever gets it finished. I'm always asking him "Buddy, when are you going to give me a ride on your hot rod?" and he keeps telling me "Just be patient Naomi, it's coming along." It's not just his hot rod, oh sorry Buddy, I meant street machine. I'm part owner of it too. Buddy started with a '72 Chevy Nova his family gave him and when it went kaput, he decided to turn it into a hot rod, I mean street machine. Now he's roped me into it. It's so darn expensive he needed some financial backing, and I get to make some of the buying decisions, such as he wanted to buy a Competition Cams camshaft but I insisted on an Iskenderian valve train, because I'm part Romanian and Iskenderian sounds like a name from that part of the world and I want to support them. All we need to do is wait for a few more parts to go on sale, we bought everything at BIG discounts, then Buddy promises to take me for a spin. So I'm putting together more hot roddy outfits for when that day comes.
In the meantime we're stuck with our winter beaters, as they're called. They don't beat anything except the high cost of living. Basically they are old cars that you wouldn't care whether they rusted out or not from the ice, snow and salt. Mine isn't even American, it's a Toyota. Working with Buddy on our hot rod, sorry again street machine, has been a learning experience, girls can do boy stuff too!
Don't forget to vote or me on Polyvore if you get a chance, and if you did thank you!
Ciao

As part of my summer boho campaign, I recreated a Polyvore set I created for my first day at my new job. So here it goes:
It worked out nicely, I think, except the photo isn't that great. I love this crop top and I'm going to wear it many more times, and so affordable too. The ASOS pants are super as well, and I adore these Steve Madden sandals, not the most comfortable things, or cheapest, but the style is fab. I changed my makeup and nails around a bit, I think the darker nail color would have been better, just got lazy and went with what I already had on.
I can't say this whole look is 100% original. The model in the Polyvore set is wearing white leggings, not these very stylish ASOS pants, so there is a difference.
Well, that's it for now. Check back later for more exciting boho, or at least bohoish, fashion, and don't forget to vote for my Polyvore contest sets, I need your votes!
Ciao.
