Israeli Summer look.

It's been years since the last time I visited Israel. My family and I went on vacation to Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, and all throughout Israel years ago. What I remember most from our vacation is the beautiful Israeli women and how they dressed. I vowed someday I would look like them.
You must have guessed by now that I am Jewish. Well, mostly Jewish, though being just part Jewish entitles me to Israeli citizenship if I am not mistaken, immigration law is not my forte. I don't know if I will ever live in Israel on a permanent basis but I will surely try to return for another vacation.
So far the only thing that reflects my Jewish heritage is that I wear a Star of David necklace and sometimes a menorah necklace, which is very common among Jews, whether they are Conservative, Orthodox, Hasidic, or like me, not a regular practitioner. The look I developed in the Polyvore set above was, of course, inspired by my trip to Israel. It's very warm there and light summer clothes are very comfortable both at night and during the day. Unfortunately, I had to redo the whole set again, just couldn't find it among my other sets. There must be some real meshuganas at Polyvore because not only was that set missing but I had to post all of the sets I made since my Catwoman set manually. Usually they are posted to my blogs automatically. I've made quite a few sets and I'm a little concerned maybe others are missing.
Well, just a word to the wise you might have different experiences.
This past summer I brought my Polyvore set to life. Buddy and I went to a street fair one weekend, and I decided to give my outfit a test:
The head scarf is hand made in Israel, and although it is beautiful, its beauty did not ease putting it on. I must have spent an hour trying to figure out how to simultaneously get my hair into the scarf and the scarf tied at the same time. The top is from Nastygal, the pants perfect and very inexpensive, my boots? I don't think they have these in Israel but I bought my pair on Aliexpress. I love the look but these huge heels are killer. So why would I think I look like I just stepped off the monorail and onto Herzliya beach? Was it just the head scarf? Nope, really the whole look, right down to the jewelry is not a direct copy but wouldn't be at all out of place anywhere in Israel. I don't know about Old Spice, though. I like it.

After some time at the street fair, which, in Israel, incidentally, are not special events but more of a way of life, Buddy treated me to a wonderful dinner at a terrific restaurant in Berkley. I think it's called Wineeasta or Vine Set or something, must be something else because neither of those names make any sense:
The restaurant is in a renovated garage that had been abandoned long ago. The new owners did a fantastic job redecorating and the food was great, which I expected from a burger three times the price of McDonald's, much better flavor too. It's just another sign of urban renewal here in Detroit. Maybe not that many people can afford to eat out at a restaurant like the one I described, and there weren't that many people there, but it's a start.
I was very grateful to Buddy for splurging so generously, and after dinner we went back to our loft, the rest is a secret. SHHH! Don't tell anyone.

Worried about the heels on soft ground.

What to do on a Wednesday night in East Lansing? That was the question Buddy and I were asking ourselves last Wednesday. Not exactly, since this Wednesday Buddy and I were prepared. We had bought tickets to see The Stone Temple Pilots and US Elevators at the Fillmore in Detroit. It was the US Elevators that Buddy and I wanted to see mostly, though I still think The Stone Temple Pilots are a great band.
Now, Detroit is less than an hour away from East Lansing, so no problem there. If you ever visit Detroit, you should at least visit the Fillmore if not to see a concert but to check this gorgeous place out. Look at the next photo:
This place is gorgeous! I'm not sure of it's history, but on the Fillmore website they write that they hold other events here besides concerts, perhaps a wedding, hint, hint, Buddy?

The next question, almost important as what to do, was what to wear? Well, from the top down to my knees I'm all Nastygal, the online clothing store, I'm a nice girl, really. The big differences between my Polyvore set and what I actually wore is that this was an indoor concert and I brought a different bag and wore different boots. Dad came through for me again with this pair of utterly beautiful YS knee high platform boots with impressive wooden heels. Maybe too high even for a concert even indoors, and I ended up sitting for most of the concert.
Other than that, my makeup was mostly on spot with the Polyvore set, and I did not bring the Quesadilla machine, at times I wish I had because I started getting a little hungry. Which brings me to the next photo:
When we got the Grande, which let me say is the hotel you should stay in when you visit Detroit whether you're a rock star or not, our little pack of groupies headed straight for the front desk. Suddenly I realized this was a bad idea, but before I could say "Stop!" they were already asking the clerk guy about the whereabouts of our rock star quarry. When the clerk, of course, denied any knowledge, I quickly interjected that we were just curious and that we were waiting for someone else. Now what? Well, we wandered around winding up in the Grande's bar which seemed like a good place to look:
Now what? They all looked at me, maybe because I seemed to be older and a college girl, so I'm like "What?" Reluctantly, we headed back to the bar, not sure what to do. What happened next seems a little hazy now, but we spotted another band member and this time neither him nor us became crazily excited. What our goal to accomplish was, I'm not sure at this point and a strange, dream like series of events followed. I found myself, along with the other girls, in one of the band member's hotel room with the rest of the band. While the other girls were running around and screaming hysterically, asking for autographs or for selfies, dancing to the music in the background, or asking inappropriate questions like "Can I have your underwear?" I stood there, watching and wondering what comes next.
What did happen, caught me completely by surprise. I heard a voice telling me he liked my boots. I turned, and it was one of The Stone Temple Pilots. Because the music was so loud, I thought at first that he said "boobs" and I was about to say "OK, hold on there tiger..." when I realized he was talking about my YS's. I don't know if it was what the other girls were doing or a rock star was talking to me, I suddenly felt very nervous. I meekly responded "Thank you" while my boots wobbled, and not just from the heels being almost 7 inches tall. Then he told me I smelled nice and asked me about the fragrance I was wearing. I told him it was Old Spice, and he said "You're kidding?" And I said no I wear it all the time, and he said "Hey, you're a cool chick" then I noticed a noise coming out of my bag. It was my cell phone! Buddy had been calling for the last hour or two and I hadn't even noticed it! After I slapped my forehead, thinking how neglectful I had been, I told my new friend "Oh that's my boyfriend!" he said simply "Alright, I'll get back to you later" and walked away. While I talked to Buddy and watched as the band appeared to go into a sort of huddle, I realized that when Buddy showed up I would be even more of a fifth wheel than I already was.
As I left, I tried to say goodbye but I don't think anyone noticed. Maybe someone said "Nice meeting you," the music was loud enough that maybe I didn't notice this time.
In the car with Buddy, during the drive back to East Lansing, I thought to myself "I was just blown off by a rock band!" Nah, it isn't everyday you meet someone that famous and I felt I should be grateful for the experience. I can't chalk the whole experience up to the way I was dressed, or the Old Spice I wear, though it must have helped.

I'm going to miss the guys at work, summer is over and it's time to go back to MSU. Summer is over? What are you talking about Naomi, you ask? Well, if you are a college student the summer is over. The seasons are bracketed by the semesters: now it's fall and shortly after Chanukah it will be spring. Funny isn't it? But that's the way us college students think.
My summer was so productive that I have quite a backlog of stuff to relate to you. Though I worked for the advertising firm for only the summer, I made a humungous number of friends and connections that I'm sure will be useful in the future. Now, you've seen two posts about my workday style, what do you think I wear the rest of the week? I'm sure the Polyvore set I've included in this post can give you a clue, but don't think my working girl style is skewed towards thigh high boots. It isn't, though I do wear platform shoes - a lot!
Now, I've tried many different variations of this Polyvore set before settling on the one I've included in this post. Check out some of my earlier posts, specifically the previous one. The big difference is the hat. The Brixton fedora hat in the Polyvore set in this post makes all the difference. What does it remind you of? Can you say, flamenco? And the red shorts - maybe, bullfighting? Combine that with the accessories, is Sephardic coming to you're mind? Well, maybe not everybody's and I'm sure this is not the uniform for Sephardic Jews but it's what I was thinking of. You've probably guessed by now that I'm Jewish, the rest is a long story. The outfit isn't a celebration of my faith like going to temple, just something I like. The funny thing is I had one of these sets titled "a Sephardic look" or something like that but I can't find it among my Polyvore sets. I'll check again and repost it if I find it.
Now, I bet your mouth is watering by now to see me modeling this style, so here you go, me in this gorgeous outfit in the lobby of the advertising firm I work at:
You've probably seen those stunning Gianvito Rossi black leather, over the knee, stiletto heel boots online at Luisviarom.com, Farfetch.com, or Neta porter.com for $800 or even more. You think to yourself, how can Naomi, a college student, sure, with a summer job, afford them? Does she have rich, generous parents? Does she starve herself to be a model, and so she can buy nice stuff? Does she have a rich husband? Nope, nope, and nope! I paid only $5, including shipping, for them! Incredible, isn't it? Here's how I did it: I hunt the internet constantly for bargains and aliexpress.com came through for me. These Gianvito Rossi boots that you see here, and have seen in a another one of my other posts, were on sale at aliexpress.com for only $50, I combined a Chinese New Year's discount with a coupon and the rest is history. You think they are fakes? Look at my photo, those are the real thing! Here's another photo in my bedroom back home:

Don't fall for the tricks many online stores are trying to pull: one store has what you want for $850, the other for $750, you figure you'll get a good deal. It's a dog eat dog world out there, don't be a squirrel. Get the best price you can, look around. Buying at the so called reputable online stores doesn't guarantee you'll get the real McCoy. My friend bought a Chanel clutch from a top UK online clothing store on sale, she went to New York with her family, decided to check the Chanel boutique out, her clutch firmly under her arm, and was completely floored when she saw what she thought was the same clutch. It wasn't. The labels were different, same style, just different. She asked one of the clerks about it, he said, yes, hers was a fake. She was so depressed.
Now, don't let me get your hopes too high. My most recent adventure at aliexpress wasn't very fruitful, seems they're backing off a bit so I may need to find other resources. I confess I didn't verify the link to aliexpress I pasted, it was a long time ago, and I'm closing my eyes and crossing my fingers it's still valid. Nevertheless, you can verify that it is indeed genuine. Just don't give up hope, you don't have to be anyone's pawn in the shopping game.
So that's my story. Hope your summer, though for some it isn't over, was as bountiful and fun as mine was.
